We’ve all been there: you’ve just finished painting or wallpapering a room. The walls are looking gorgeous. The space is feeling fresh and then – BAM! – back on goes the horrible plastic-y light switches and power outlets.
Well, those days are done! I’m excited to share a home source I’m absolutely swooning over right now: the adorne Collection by Legrand. Plus, I’m detailing my experience using their custom wall plates in our home!
The adorne Collection by Legrand
Last year I first fell in love with the adorne Collection by Legrand, a suite of stunning lighting and charging solutions that are as functional as they are stylish. I’m talking about light switches and dimmers you can push, wave, tap, touch or control with your iPhone. Power outlets that pop out your wall when needed, are USB-compatible or Wi-Fi ready. And wall plates that, depending on what you’re looking for, can blend into your existing decor or make a bold statement.
I’m a fan of both options: being bold and blending.
In Emmett’s nursery, I chose to make a statement, opting for Brushed Brass Wall Plates that really pop in his all-white room.
Contrarily, in our kitchen and main floor, I complemented the existing light and bright aesthetic with Mirror White on White Wall Plates that look sleek and sophisticated.
Now I’m trying something completely new: I’m teaming up with Legrand to add some wow-factor to our powder room and mudroom with their custom wall plates!
Light your imagination with custom wall plates
Okay, talk about a designer’s dream come true! The adorne Collection by Legrand lets you add your own personal touch to a room with completely customizable wall plates. Whether you want to apply paint, fabric, wallpaper – or even photographs – the options are endless.
In our powder room and mudroom, I chose to apply two different types of wallpaper. Here’s a step-by-step on how I did it!
How to customize your custom wall plate
- Each wall plate comes with a template. It can be painted on directly, or used as stencil for wallpaper or fabric.
- First, fit the template properly onto the wall plate to identify the top and the bottom (it only fits correctly one way). To ensure I wouldn’t accidently cut my wallpaper upside down, I wrote ‘top’ in pencil on the back of the template.
Customizing with paint
- If painting, simply apply an even coat of paint directly to the template.
- Once the paint has dried, pull the peel-covering off the adorne wall plate. Then affix the painted template, with the painted side facing outwards.
- Firmly press on the template to ensure its securely fastened and – voila – your wall plate is ready to be installed on your wall!
Customizing with wallpaper (or fabric)
- Get a sharp blade (like a snap-blade knife or scissors).
- Set the template down flat on your wallpaper, paying close attention to the wallpaper pattern.
- My powder room wallpaper is a recurring pattern so I wanted it to match exactly. I found it super helpful to bring the wallpaper right into the bathroom with me. I held it up against the wall to get the best match possible.
- Then, use a snap-blade knife to cut around the template. Or, if you’re more comfortable, you can trace the template onto the wallpaper with a pencil and then carefully cut it out with scissors. I tried both options – but preferred the snap-blade knife. My husband has a super steady hand and could cut the template perfectly in one go. I’m not quite as crafty and actually found it helpful to do a few trial runs (using wallpaper scraps) to get the hang of using the knife.
- Ensuring you know which side is the top and which is the bottom, remove the peel-covering from the adorne wall plate. Affix the wallpaper, with the pattern facing outwards.
- Firmly press on the wallpaper (or fabric) to ensure its securely fastened and – voila – your wall plate is ready to be installed on your wall!
As you can see, I’m obsessed with how the pattern blends in seamlessly in our powder room.
And I love how the wall plates in our mudroom match the wallpaper above the wainscoting.
Seriously, the adorne Collection by Legrand once again knocks it out the park. What do you think of custom wall plates? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below and am happy to answer questions!
A big thank you to the adorne Collection by Legrand for providing me with custom wall plates for this home project.

Beautiful. I just wish Legrand made extra custom templates! I have lost mine and you can’t buy just the paper/cardboard template by itself 😫
