If light switches are the jewelry of your walls, then I just upgraded from some dull cubic zirconia to flawless diamonds, y’all!

But seriously, I can raise my hand with complete honesty and say that when it came to designing our home, I spent hours poring over different styles of crystal chandeliers and kitchen pendant lights. Yet when it came to the switches that would control those lights? Well, I didn’t give them much thought.

In hindsight, it turns out I should’ve.

The adorne Collection by Legrand

I was recently invited to try out the adorne Collection by Legrand and was pleasantly surprised to learn there’s WAY more options when it comes to light switches and power outlets than the cookie cutter white or beige wall plates with big, bulky, visible screws we’ve all grown to know and accept.

I’m talking light switches you can push, touch, wave, tap, or control with your iPhone. Power outlets that pop out your wall when needed. And wall plates that, depending on your taste, can blend in seamlessly with your decor or stand out and make a statement all their own.

It took only a few minutes browsing through all the different adorne Collection by Legrand products to know that I was ready for an upgrade. Our kitchen, sitting room and dining room are the most used spaces in our home. On a functional level, I’d been longing for some time for the ability to dim several lights in our kitchen. And aesthetically, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to incorporate their sleek design into my home.

What I chose from the adorne Collection by Legrand

Wall Plates

I chose to upgrade to the deluxe Mirror White on White wall plates. I love that the classic white colour blends in well with my home’s color palette, while a hint of silver adds sleek sophisticated.

I required a variety of 1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang and 4-gang plates, depending on how many switches, outlets or dimmers I was looking to accommodate in a specific area.

Pop-out Outlet

The pop-out outlet is genius. It features three plugs and disappears into the wall with a simple push when not needed. Talk about aesthetically pleasing!

Touch Switch

Looking for a user-friendly switch? The minimalistic Touch Switch functions just like an iPhone – it turns on and off with a simple touch.

sofTap Dimmer Switch

The prettiest and most functional dimmer I’ve ever used!

Standard Outlet

This stylish standard outlet features two smartly spaced plugs. I chose it for any area that couldn’t accommodate a pop-out outlet.

The Install

Now, not going to lie, I love home design and decor but I’ve never self-identified as a DIYer. Same with Aaron. We’ve always been the type to hire professional help!

However, I’m happy to report that installing these light switches and outlets was a job that Aaron was able to take on. It was his first time doing any kind of electrical work and while, naturally, there was a bit of a learning curve, it’s something he was able to handle with the help of our neighbour and a few pints of beer!

Here are a few pointers, though, to consider before ordering your adorne Collection by Legrand products:

• If you’re looking to get the pop-out outlets, which I LOVE, check that you have a deep electrical outlet (22.5 cubic inches). We did a check and found that the pop-out outlets would work in our kitchen, but not in our sitting and dining room.
• If you’re looking into getting dimmer switches, note that the Touch Dimmers require 0-10V, which your home may not have.
• Before you start installing the switches, turn off your power. LOL – this is an obvious one but given that this was our first electrical DIY project, I found myself asking Aaron if the power was off a few too many times! Ha! Better safe than sorry.
