Light + Bright Living Room Refresh With Sofa Land

Hello, gorgeous! Today I’m sharing a look at our light and bright living room refresh, featuring a new area rug, custom-made sofas and decor from one of our favourite locally-owned stores, Sofa Land.

Of all the rooms in our home, styling our main floor living room has always been my greatest challenge. The space is larger than it appears and – believe it or not – wider than it is long.

When we moved in, we bought a modest sofa and two chairs. Although comfortable, they didn’t do our layout justice and (as we’ve learned) didn’t offer enough seating for a family of four.

After spending far too much time cooped up at home in 2020 and 2021 (as we all did!), I was SO ready for a change. First up, we added picture frame moulding and fresh white paint throughout the space. Next up? Furniture.

Why We Chose Sofa Land

I’ve mentioned before that Aaron and I are huge Sofa Land fans. Okayyyy, that’s kind of an understatement – ALL three levels of our home are currently furnished with Sofa Land pieces!

We keep coming back because there’s nowhere else in Alberta that offers such unsurpassed quality, customer service and on-trend, customizable seating at such reasonable prices.

Plus, buying new furniture is a big purchase and if I’m being honest, I don’t necessarily trust myself, lol. I found a lot of value in leaning on Sofa Land’s talented team of designers to help make my vision a reality… and find pieces that fit our space’s dimensions and our family’s lifestyle.

I don’t know where the time has gone but it’s now been five years since we customized this wall-to-wall Julian sectional in Edward Grey for our upstairs bonus room.

Custom making this piece was such a positive experience. I’m also happy to report that not only has it stood the test of time, it literally looks just as good as the day it was delivered!

It’s A Family Affair

I must give credit where it’s due – I was initially drawn to shopping at Sofa Land because of my parents. They’re long-time customers and have always been impressed with the longevity of the sofas they’ve purchased.

My parents (and, funnily enough, also my mother-in-law) recently purchased the Eden sofa set and I love how my Mum’s styled it.

Our New Dax Sofas

When it came to redoing our main floor sitting room, returning to Sofa Land was the obvious choice.

My goal was to create a casual-chic space. I wanted something comfortable enough to sprawl out and relax with the family on a Saturday morning, yet stylish and sophisticated enough for hosting girlfriends for wine and charcuterie on a Saturday night.

I feel like we made the perfect choice with the Dax, which merges a clean, alluring design and sleek arms with plush, comfortable cushions. Available in multiple size configurations and hundreds of fabric options, we opted for two 95” long sofas in the Casa Ivory fabric.

Plus, the Dax is made right here in Canada – how incredible is that?!

This colour was exactly what I had in mind and Sofa Land’s talented design team helped direct me to easy-maintenance fabrics, ideal for kids and our home’s fuzzy inhabitants, like this guy here.

As we did with our bonus room, we opted to add on Sofa Land’s stain protection plan. In a nutshell, it’s a plan that protects against accidental spills and stains. Sofa Land will send out a technician or professional cleaner to assess and treat the damage and if no claims are used after 5 years, you’ll be credited back the cost.

The Cost

For these two large, custom-made sofas, my total cost was $4,098. So, $2,049 per sofa. Mentioning this because a few friends I’ve told were stunned that custom-making such a beautiful, quality piece of furniture (with your own fabric choice and dimensions tailored specific to your home) was comparable in price to buying a sofa as-is at other retailers.

Plus, I love that the Dax is made in Canada. In fact, the majority of sofas at Sofa Land are made right here in North America. Just ask your designer!

Sofa Land Rug

Although I was aware of Sofa Land’s amazing range of furniture, I didn’t realise that they also have a HUGE selection of rugs.

Given the unusual dimensions of our living room, finding a rug has been a challenge over the past eight years. Yet, all it took was one meeting with the Sofa Land design team to find the perfect one!

Decorative Accents

In addition to our new sofas and rug, a few decorative accents also caught my eye while shopping in-store. The first is actually the piece I’ve received the most DMs about on Instagram: our faux eucalyptus tree in a white ceramic pot.

I also love these gold and white beaded orbs and decorative wooden knot. They add a natural, organic feel to my coffee table vignette.

Lastly, next time you’re shopping for accent pillows, skip wherever you usually go and head straight to Sofa Land.

This toss pillow comes in a variety of colours – I opted for blush pink. It’s so full and plush and at $49, is much better quality than pillows of a similar price point at other stores. Just sayin’.
