Easy Holiday Entertaining: Savoury Puff Pastry Bites 3 Ways

Today I’m sharing my favourite appetizer of the holiday season: savoury puff pastry bites done three ways (spinach artichoke, caprese and turkey cranberry).

Savoury puff pastry bites made with Lilydale

The holiday season is upon us, guys, and I’m ready to embrace all of it – from ugly sweater parties to decorating the Christmas tree, visiting the mall with Emmett and Elle to meet Santa and everything in between.

This time of year is busy for us as it coincides with my birthday (YUP, my name isn’t Holly by accident – lol!) and I love all the extra opportunities to socialize with family and friends.

When it comes to holiday food, there’s no beating turkey at Christmastime. To me, it’s as essential as Santa’s milk and cookies! For that reason, I’m excited to have partnered with Lilydale® – proudly Canadian for over 75 years, providing families with great tasting high-quality poultry products I can trust – for these savoury puff pastry bites.

First of all, they’re delicious and appealing to the eye. But, if you know me, you’ll know that I’m by no means a domestic goddess in the kitchen – so what I love most is how easy they are.Christmas puff pastry bites with light bokeh

Let’s take a peek at how they’re done:

Savoury Puff Pastry Bites 3 Ways: Spinach Artichoke, Caprese and Turkey Cranberry

Makes 24 puff pastry bites

You’ll Need:

  • Mini muffin tins
  • 2 sheets of all-butter, ready-rolled puff pastry, defrosted

For Spinach Artichoke

  • 1 1/2 cups of your favourite pre-made spinach artichoke or spinach dip (you can make it yourself, but I’m all about ease around the holidays!)
  • 1/2 cup chopped Lilydale® Oven Roasted Chicken Breast Strips
  • 1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese, to top

For Caprese

  • 1 cup chopped Lilydale® Oven Roasted Carved Turkey Breast slices
  • 24 small balls fresh mozzarella cheese (often labeled bocconcini)
  • 1/2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 tbsp olive oil
  • 12 grape tomatoes, quartered
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped, to top

For Turkey Cranberry

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 °
  2. Unwrap your defrosted puff pastry sheets and lightly roll them so they stretch a bit.
  3. Use a knife to cut the dough into 3 long pieces. Then cut each strip into quarters, so you end up with 12 squares per sheet – or 24 in total.
  4. Place your pastry squares in your mini muffin tins, with the corners hanging over.

For Spinach Artichoke

  1. Evenly divide the chopped Lilydale® Oven Roasted Chicken Breast Strips between the muffin tins and top with spinach dip, about 1 tbsp per tin.
  2. Take the corners of the pastry and gently fold over and close, then sprinkle parmesan cheese on top.
  3. Bake for about 22 minutes or until the pastry begins to turn golden brown.
  4. Remove from oven and allow to cool before serving.

For Caprese

  1. Layer the bottom of each muffin tin with the chopped Lilydale® Oven Roasted Carved Turkey Breast slices.
  2. In a small bowl, combine bocconcini balls, balsamic vinegar and olive oil, so that the cheese becomes coated.
  3. Add one mozzarella ball and two tomato quarters to each tin.
  4. Take the corners of the pastry and gently fold over and close.
  5. Bake for about 22 minutes or until the pastry begins to turn golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool before sprinkling with fresh basil. Serve and enjoy!

For Turkey Cranberry

  1. In a small bowl, combine Lilydale® Oven Roasted Turkey Breast Strips, cream cheese, cranberries and thyme.
  2. Divide evenly into muffin tins, about 1 tbsp per tin.
  3. Take the corners of the pastry and gently fold over and close, then sprinkle parmesan cheese on top.
  4. Bake for about 22 minutes or until the pastry begins to turn golden brown.
  5. Remove from oven and allow to cool before serving.

Seriously, these savoury puff pastry bites are the perfect snack to bring to your Christmas potluck, serve up alongside spiced eggnog at ladies’ night, or wow the crowd at the next holiday party!

…or, in my case this week, they’re a great finger food snack for toddlers.

Can these Savoury Puff Pastry Bites Be Made Ahead of Time?

You bet. Just assemble all the ingredients in the muffin tins and refrigerate, covered, for up to 24 hours before baking. You may also need an extra minute or two in the oven.

How to Store Leftover Savoury Puff Pastry Bites

Refrigerate in an airtight container and reheat in the microwave when ready to enjoy.

A big thank you to Lilydale, my favourite poultry brand that got its start here in Alberta over 75 years ago, for suggesting we collaborate on this blog post! I love entertaining and am always looking for ways to cut down on the work so I can spend my time enjoying the company of family and friends – and know I’ll be making this recipe for years to come!

If you’re looking to add a few more recipes to your holiday repertoire, I encourage you to check out Lilydale’s appetizer recipes on their website. I was looking through it myself this week and can’t wait to try out their Turkey Yorkie Bites, Baked Brie and Turkey Sliders and Sweet Ginger Turkey Kebabs – yummy!

Happy holiday entertaining, guys!
