Our Functional, Modern Entryway Bench

Today I’m sharing my front foyer’s latest addition: a functional, modern entryway bench from Plank&Pin (and – spoiler alert – we’re teaming up on an amazing furniture giveaway!

For a multitude of reasons, 2020 was a quiet year in terms of home decor projects. But heading into 2021, I felt a renewed desire to focus some energy into our home – a place we’ve been spending a lot of time lately – and first up on the list was the addition of an entryway bench.

I came across Plank&Pin on Etsy when looking for benches with a Mid-Century Modern vibe and immediately fell in love. All their pieces are hand-made in Canada using solid pine planks. Plus, they offer a variety of wood finishes – from black to pottery beige and Shou Sugi Ban torched wood.

And – best of all – each piece is fitted with customizable hairpin legs in either gold, black or rose gold.

Though each finish has its charms, I was most drawn to the grey wash wood bench with black legs – and rightly so! It looks great in here.

Bench Dimensions

In case you’re wondering about dimensions, this is the 45-inch long bench (though 60- and 72-inch long benches are also available). And as far as height, after careful consideration of our needs, I went for the taller, 23-inch height. It’s ideal as I’ll be using the bench as a place to take off my winter boots. Plus, I wanted it high enough to easily prop backpacks, groceries and all the other things that enter and exit our front door on a regular basis!

If you’re looking for a shorter bench for your kids to use, I’d definitely recommend going with the 17-inch height as it sits much closer to the ground, like this:
