Next Tuesday marks the official arrival of spring and I couldn’t be happier! To celebrate, I’m joining eight talented home and lifestyle bloggers to bring you the Loveliest Looks of Spring Tour. You’re in for a treat – we’re showing you all the ways we refresh for spring in our homes and closets.
If this is your first stop on the tour, thanks for joining us. I’ve linked all the other participants at the bottom of this post, as well as the items featured in my spring home, closet and beauty routine.
Home Refresh for Spring
When I think spring, pastel tones and fresh flowers immediately come to mind.
When Aaron and I entertain, I love picking up some fresh blooms. Whether they’re in the kitchen, sitting room, or even the guest bathroom, flowers are the perfect way to quickly add some springtime elegance to our home.
I took a floral class a few months back. The instructor recommended removing all the leaves from the flowers, trimming the stems at an angle daily and replacing the water every two days. Ever since I started doing this, I’ve noticed my arrangements last much longer – often more than two weeks.
I’m at home with Elle most days and it’s so nice to enjoy their beauty – a small but appreciated luxury for this stay-at-home mum!
Refresh for spring with seasonal accents
I also love refreshing our home for spring with seasonal accents. When March arrives, I say goodbye to our silver-toned winter decor and hello to soft blues and pastels.
The four places I always refresh for spring are our dining table, kitchen counters, coffee tables and couch pillows. Just a few small adjustments can completely change the look of our entire open-plan main floor.
Closet Refresh for Spring
So, I have a habit: it’s called all-black-everything. When in doubt or in a rush, I grab jeans and a cute black top and call it a day. Which is fine in the freezing winter, but nothing looks better in spring than soft neutrals or a pop of colour.
To help ensure I’m not overwhelmed when picking an outfit for the day, I’ve started swapping out my closet seasonally. In March I put away all my thick winter sweaters and bring out my favourite white jeans, breezy spring dresses and pastel-toned purses. I find the less there is in my closet, the easier it is to spot fun pieces and put together an outfit worth wearing.
And while I’m in no way saying ‘no’ to black – I always have a few evening tops and pants that stay in my closet year-round – I do try and soften the colour with pretty floral patterns or lace details to refresh for spring.
Like come on, how cute is this blazer!
Skincare Refresh for Spring
I’m the kind of girl who’s always placed importance on quality skincare. Even back in my younger days, after a fun night out dancing, I might wake up the next morning in a sequinned dress… but my makeup would always be off and moisturizer applied. Now that’s commitment to a good nighttime regime!
Fast forward and I’m a few years older – post baby, post breastfeeding – and taking care of my skin is more important than ever. I’m so fortunate because my friends over at Clinique Canada sent over some of their favourite products and I’m obsessed. For the past few months I’ve been using their Pep-Start Hydro Blur moisturizer (it leaves skin hydrated and matte which I love!) and eye cream in the morning before applying makeup.
Now that spring is upon us, I’m refreshing my skincare regime with their Fresh Pressed Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C. It’s a super potent booster designed to brighten skin, and I’ve been adding two drops to Clinique’s Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator.
The hydrator is gel-cream – my first time trying something like this – and my skin has literally been drinking it up! If you live in a dry climate like I do here in Alberta, I highly recommend it.
And news flash: if you’re looking for the BEST way possible to take your makeup off at night, I can’t recommend Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm enough. Seriously, it’ll be your new best friend.
Here are a few other skincare products I use on the regular and swear by if you’re like me and have dry skin in need of hydration… anddddd are looking to combat any oncoming signs of aging.
Side note: if you haven’t yet invested in a Clarisonic brush – believe me, it’s a game changer!
Makeup Refresh for Spring
When it comes to makeup, I love trying and testing new things. My sister worked at the beauty counter at Shoppers Drug Mart for years and hooked me.
So, I love a good dewy look just as much as the next girl… but I find it’s a very thin line between radiant and greasy. Haha! For that reason, I tend to lean towards a matte finish for my makeup. Here’s what I’m using now and wore in the photos from this post.
And public service announcement: if you love a matte finish and haven’t tried blotting papers yet, you NEED to. They’re gold. I’ve been carrying them around in my purse for the last decade. Essentially, they help remove shine without needing to apply any more makeup. They’re the perfect product to refresh for spring.
