Yoo hoo – big summer blowout!
Okay, given the current state of things, it was less ‘big summer blowout’ and more ‘small garage get-together’. But despite a tough year, we decided to celebrate Elle with a Frozen birthday party and it proved to be a day that was nothing short of magical!
Frozen Ice Castle Birthday Cake
It was April and the height of COVID-19 when Elle looked over at me, deep in thought, and said, “Okay, let’s talk about my birthday cake.”
Her birthday is in September, lol.
Granted, we’d just participated in several drive-by-and-honk celebrations for friends, so birthdays were on her brain. And our family loves to celebrate with a scrumptious cake!
Elle’s a lucky lady, though. My friends over at Whisk Dessert Co. in St. Albert have baked some pretty unforgettable cakes for her over the years. This year’s creation, however, was complete magic: a two-tier Frozen ice castle cake.
Whisk incorporated the prettiest details, from Elle’s name on the front door…
…to the rocky candy ‘ice’ on top!
Plus, the inside was a delectable confetti cake with blue icing. I definitely ate it for breakfast the following two days lol.
Frozen Birthday Party Dessert Table
While the Frozen ice castle cake sat front and centre on our dessert table, it was in good company. Jenn, Jade and team at Whisk dreamed up some incredible Frozen-themed treats that had all the guests saying “Let It Go” to their healthy eating plans for the day!
Sugar Ice Shard Macarons
Up first are literally the prettiest macarons I’ve ever seen.
They were white chocolate and London Fog-flavoured and dressed up with rock candy to give the appearance of ice shards!
Let It Go Ombre Cheesecake Shots
These birthday cake ombre cheesecake shots looked so cool (yes, I’m still going strong with all the Frozen puns) and tasted just as good!
Vanilla Snowflake Cookie Sandwiches
These cookie sandwiches were a huge hit with the kids – they zeroed in on them so fast, I was lucky to have a moment to snap a photo!
A Royal Visit from Queen Elsa
Whoever said to never meet your heroes must not have invited Elsa to their fourth birthday, because I’m quite certain meeting Elsa was the highlight of Elle’s summer!
2020 hasn’t been easy and with family trips to Disneyland on the backburner, I reached out to Glass Slipper Entertainment in hopes their Ice Queen could make an appearance! It proved to be the best decision – Elle was literally living her best life.
When Elsa arrived, it was quite the spectacle – all the kids gathered round to gawk in amazement. She gave an introduction and allowed everyone to warm up to the idea that a Queen was present. She then proceeded with some fun activities, including photos with guests, an interactive story time, singing and dancing, a themed scavenger hunt, colouring and a coronation ceremony for Elle, complete with a princess crown.
I booked her for the one-hour time slot. I found it worked really well as I didn’t have to plan any other activities other than eating – and while she entertained the kids, us adults had a chance to talk.
If you’re in the Edmonton area, Glass Slipper Entertainment have several difference princesses available to attend your in-person event, as well as offering personalized recorded messages and video chats.
Frozen Birthday Party Balloon Garland
Okay, so don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some pretty amazing balloon garlands out there on Pinterest. But this one cost me $20 and the amount of time it takes to drink a glass and a half of wine, so it’s what I went with!
Amazon has lots of great balloon options. This is the one I went with (US link)– though I’d say the color wasn’t as advertised (it was less pastel, more bright blue). The kit itself came with glue dots and a plastic strip to assemble the garland but I like to string all the balloons on a thin metal craft wire, making it malleable yet sturdy.
I then hung the garland from our garage door and an overhead storage bin using more metal wire. Voila!
Olaf Piñata
As odd as this may sound, I’m pretty sure Olaf is Elle’s least favourite character in Frozen, lol.
So props to my parents for picking up this Olaf-shaped piñata. Needless to say, it was a HIT!
Elsa Costume
If you’re looking to buy a Frozen costume for your little one, I definitely recommend heading to the Disney store. We received the traditional blue Elsa dress and Frozen 2 outfit as gifts, as well as the matching shoes and boots. Elle plays in them multiple times a week and they’ve held up great!
Frozen Birthday Party Food
This year we served Arendelle’s finest: pizza, next to a bottle of hand sanitizer!
Seriously though, it was easy, affordable and a great option so that people weren’t handling shared serving spoons. And I hand-passed all the dessert.
Frozen Birthday Party Favours
Given the current state of things, our guest list was small. But for Elle’s handful of besties who came to celebrate, we handed out one of these charming wands (US link) and a tub of kinetic sand (US link).
Thanks for stopping by to read about Elle’s Frozen birthday party. If you like any of the ideas, be sure to Pin this blog post to save it for later. Plus, if you’d like to see other birthday parties we’ve hosted, you can check them out here.
