My name’s Holly so I feel totally justified in saying that berries aren’t just for Christmas decor! That’s why I made them a focal point in this dreamy white pumpkin and berry fall tablescape. Here are all the details!
We’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner here at our home tomorrow. While my husband is in charge of the turkey, I like to think I have an equally important job: preparing the cocktails and setting a table that looks as good as the food tastes.
Oh, and cleaning the house like an absolute madwoman. I’ve been trying to curb this habit for years but have grown to accept that before any major event, I feel the need to go through an entire tub of white erasers, lol!
I really am loving this year’s white pumpkin and berry fall tablescape, though. When it comes to designing a table setting, at any time of year, I always find it helpful to follow these four steps:
Four steps for designing a styled tablescape
-
Choose a colour palette
A great place to start is selecting your colour palette. Once you choose your focal colours, it becomes easier to map out the rest of your table!
This year, while out on a nature walk with the kids, I found myself admiring the glossy leaves and bright red fruit of the silver buffaloberry. Elle and Emmett picked some and brought them home in a pail and when I saw how beautiful they looked next to our fresh white pumpkins, I knew they’d be a great addition to this year’s Thanksgiving tablescape.Voila – white with a pop of red as my colour scheme!
-
Incorporate fresh or natural elements
Natural elements, such as fresh flowers, greenery, fruits and vegetables, are key to making a tablescape memorable.
While I never shy away from faux greenery, this year everything I used was all natural: white pumpkins picked at our local pumpkin patch and silver buffaloberry.
-
Add texture and vary heigh
Create visual interest by layering textures and varying the heights of tabletop decor.
A ribbed table runner, linen napkins and wooden placemats added some gorgeous texture to the table.
I also styled my tablescape two ways – with and without this white pumpkin centerpiece, which added some height (without being too tall or obstructing guests’ view of one another).
Believe it or not, you can make one for yourself in less than ten minutes! I’ve dedicated an entire blog post to answering all your questions and giving step-by-step directions on creating a centerpiece using either a fresh or faux pumpkin.
But, in short – to achieve this look I simply cut a hole in a 9″ Michael’s craft pumpkin, inserted a vase with water and styled some faux greenery mixed with fresh silver buffaloberry.
-
Up the ambience with mood lighting
Whether it’s candles, lanterns, twinkly lights, overhead lights, glass orbs or flameless candles, a little mood lighting can go a long way!
I lined the table with a selection of classic white candles from Fruits + Passion that smell as delicious as they look!
Our Dining Room Furniture
Without fail, I always receive a few questions about my dining room table and chairs – which I’m happy to answer because I love them! They’re from the Universal Furniture Summer Hill dining collection and, most unfortunately, at over six years old – they’re no longer available! However, here are a few pieces with the same vibe:
Our rug, however, is still available. It’s from Orian Rugs’ boucle collection and I love it. Although it’s light in colour, it’s an indoor/outdoor rug, making it highly durable. Emmett coloured on it with red marker this week and I just hand cleaned it with no issue. Seriously, we have three of these rugs in our home and I love that they’re SO easy to wipe clean.
And there you have it, guys! In just a few simple steps you can create a charming white pumpkin and berry tablescape that is sure to impress all your guests this Thanksgiving, or for any fall gathering. I think this look would be especially appealing to my friends in the United States. Given that Thanksgiving this year is November 26, it’s a fabulous table setting to merge fall and winter decor.
Happy decorating!
