It’s official – our sweet baby Emmett is ONE and today was perfect.
Aaron, Elle, Em and I had a relaxed day at home with a few guest appearances from family, all centred around celebrating the sweet-natured, cuddly, strong-willed, infectiously smiley baby who’s completed our family.
While it was a happy day – I’m not gonna lie, there’s something about a first birthday that really pulls at a Momma’s heartstrings. Though SO many exciting days lie ahead, its bittersweet knowing – and pausing a moment to consciously acknowledge – that the infant days are now behind us and we’ll never experience them again.
Cue the sobs.
…Okay, now back to the smiles! Because really, there’s so much to celebrate. I mean, have you seen this delicious face?
Speaking of delicious, we decided to kick off a weekend of family festivities with a Wild ONE birthday cake smash! Here are all the details (now that I’ve completed my sappy Momma monologue).
Wild ONE Birthday Cake Smash
Not sure if you know, but Emmett has a jungle-themed nursery and is a bittttttt wild at heart, making the Wild ONE birthday theme so fitting.
Once again, my friends at Whisk Dessert Co. knocked it out the park with the perfect cake.
They slathered two layers of luscious confetti cake with velvety buttercream frosting. They then adorned the cake with jungle leaves and a golden crown fit for a birthday king.
I’d like to say the cake was too pretty to eat… but clearly, Emmett and Elle both dug in.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, though, as Whisk Dessert Co. has made our family some swoon-worthy edible art over the years. Here’s a look if you’re in the mood for some more baking inspiration!
Wild ONE Birthday Decorations
After a bit of searching online, I found the best decor kit on Amazon.ca. It was only $22 (and only $14 USD on Amazon.com) and had everything I needed, including:
- A ‘Wild One’ foil balloon banner (and white ribbon to hang it)
- A gold glitter crown with an elastic strap
- 12 artificial palm leaves
- 10 white balloons, 10 green balloons
- 12 palm leaves cupcake toppers
- 12 ‘Wild One’ cupcake toppers
- 1 ‘Happy Birthday’ cake topper
I also bought some thin craft wire to turn the balloons into a malleable garland, as well as some tape to affix a few palm leaves to Emmett’s high chair and the wall.
Also, a word to the wise: we draped the floor with a sheet and I’m so glad because Emmett went to town on the cake.
Wild ONE Birthday Outfit
My girlfriend Alex gifted Emmet the cutest ‘One’ t-shirt – which was perfect for matching Dad.
I also came across some fun outfits with more of a “Where The Wild Things Are” vibe, if that’s something you’re leaning towards!
Thanks for stopping by and for taking a peek at how we celebrated this major milestone in my little man’s life!
