Today I’m whipping together your new favourite drink: the equally refreshing and boozy Redheaded French Blonde cocktail.
Back in the summer, my blogger bff Alex and I had a laugh over the fact we were both receiving targeted Instagram ads from Lillet, a French wine-based aperitif.
Well, the ads worked because Alex picked up a bottle and we finally cracked it last week. With temperatures dropping to -40C here in Edmonton, we wanted to create some summertime in a glass. We found success in shaking the Lillet Blanc over ice with elderflower liqueur, dry gin, citrus bitters and freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice.
The result: our Redheaded French Blonde cocktail, which is refreshing, light and boozier than it tastes!
Here’s a look at the recipe:
Redheaded French Blonde Cocktail
Yields 2 cocktails
You’ll need:
- 1 oz elderflower liqueur (we used St. Germain)
- 4 oz Lillet Blanc
- 2 oz dry gin (we used Bombay Sapphire)
- 4 oz freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice
- 2 dashes of orange bitters
- 2 sprigs of rosemary and 2 lemon rinds, to garnish
- Ice, to shake
Directions:
Vigorously shake all ingredients (except for garnishes) in an ice-filled cocktail shaker for about 30 seconds, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a small piece of lemon rind pierced with a sprig of rosemary. Enjoy!
A note to consider: if you’re thinking about reaching for bottled grapefruit juice, don’t. It’s the predominant flavour in the cocktail – so in this case, fresh is definitely best.
Cute Cocktail Shakers
I loved Alex’s pretty gold cocktail shaker and know I need to add one to my own barware collection. Here are some cute cocktail shakers so you can whip up a Redheaded French Blonde cocktail in style.
Cheers!
