Today I’m teaming up with Wayfair Canada to give a tour of one of the most restful spaces in our home – our son’s bedroom – and to share some of my favourite neutral kids’ bedroom furniture and decorative accents.
When it came to transitioning our son’s nursery into a bedroom, my main objective was to create a calming environment for him to get a good night’s sleep.
We have a playroom in our basement that houses all the kids’ toys – it’s the perfect place to get wild, make a mess and be creative. So with Emmett’s bedroom, I wanted to create a space with less distractions – somewhere he could kick back and relax to read a book or engage in quiet play.
Neutral Kids’ Bedroom Decor and Furnishings
I’ve always believed in the power of a neutral color palette to create a timeless, versatile and calming space. Wayfair.ca has such a vast collection of bedroom essentials delivered straight to your door which sure helped make the selection process a breeze. Here’s a closer look at the pieces we purchased:
Gold Light Fixture
I’m going to kick things off with one of the most asked-about pieces: this clear seeded glass and gold light fixture. It’s a real show-stopper.
Plus, it comes in multiple different glass styles and finishes. Here are some other light fixtures that have me swooning:
Trundle Bed
Given the layout of this room, I opted for a trundle bed. I wanted a bed that would fit in the back corner, maximizing floor space while providing an extra sleeping option for house guests.
Queue this Upholstered Bed, available in both a light and dark grey.
The benefit I wasn’t anticipating, though, was its STORAGE! While we keep the kids’ toys in a separate play room in the basement, Emmett LOVES stuffed animals. This trundle bed is the perfect place to store all his friends. I’m also very happy with how well this bed has held up these past three years.
Here are a few other styles that caught my eye:
3-Drawer Dresser
A classic, attractive piece, we held onto this 3-drawer dresser from Em’s nursery. After over 6 years of daily use, it’s held up fantastic.
Here are a few other dressers from Wayfair I’ve been admiring that would look fantastic in a neutral kids’ bedroom.
Plush Rug
Over the years, we’ve experimented with a few different rugs in Emmett’s room. I wanted something plush and comfortable underfoot but not too shaggy (as I learned the hard way that they hide LEGO pieces a little bit too well). I also didn’t want anything too decorative – being able to vacuum it without specialty tools was a must.
So glad I ordered this rug – and love that Wayfair.ca carries it in a huge selection of colours (grey, blue, navy pink) and sizes.
A Few Other Fun Finds
Had to share a few other pieces that caught my eye– such as this gold mirror and dinosaur ottoman.
