If we’ve met and talked for more than five minutes, chances are I’ve brought up my two sisters – they’re my best friends. So, I’m sure you can imagine just how EXCITED I am that my youngest, Sophie, is getting married this August.
Last weekend I helped my Mum (the ringleader of our group) and Sophie’s bridal party put together her shower. I’m SO thrilled with how it all turned out.
We chose to heighten the traditional floral bridal shower theme by incorporating elements from Sophie’s favourite show, Gossip Girl. In case you’re not familiar with Gossip Girl – think of the glamour associated with Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
I thought I’d share some photos from the event (taken by the incredibly talented Mandy Landry Photography) in case you’re in the midst of planning a floral bridal shower and are looking for some inspiration.
Entryway
My Mum made the most gorgeous tulle peony wreath to greet guests.
In the entryway we included a sign counting down to the wedding, as well as photos of the couple hung by twinkle lights. And for those familiar with Gossip Girl, all our guests – or Blairs – were handed a headband. Sophie was Serena for the day.
Balloons
I LOVE foil balloons. They make such a statement, especially for events like bridal showers.
The catchphrase for Gossip Girl is ‘xoxo’, so these balloons were the perfect fit!
Photo Booth
To help capture memories from Sophie’s special day, we set up a photo booth complete with polaroid cameras, props, and a large-scale frame. As polaroids developed, we pinned them to a board for Sophie to take home!
I also have to rave about the decorative fans we used as a backdrop. They were stunning AND sturdy… and so pretty that I poached them for the bachelorette party.
Floral Bridal Shower Decor
The evening before the shower, my Mum and I burned the midnight oil making fresh floral arrangements with peonies, hydrangeas, white roses, carnations and greenery. The whole house was so fragrant! We placed the arrangements throughout the party space and as a centerpiece on our dessert table.
My Mum hunted for pretty pieces, like this Bride to Be sign and wedding cake garland, for months. It was worth the work, though – they fit perfectly with the soft pastel tones our floral bridal shower theme.
Food
As with any party, we went all out when it came to food! My contribution was a selection of piped pink and lilac cupcakes.
We also had XO cookies made as a nod to Gossip Girl.
Other party fare included watermelon and cucumber salad, heart-shaped sandwiches, quinoa salad, a charcuterie board, fruit cups, a veggie platter, and cheese skewers.
My sister doesn’t drink so in additional to Champagne, we made strawberry mint water, rhubarb lemonade and – for the adventurous – black charcoal lemonade.
Game
One of my favourite parts of the party was the game we played. A few days beforehand, I asked the groom 15 questions. Then, at the party, Sophie had to guess what his answers were. She knocked it out of the park, and it was so much fun hearing both of their answers!
Party Favours
We made mini arrangements of baby’s breath and pink roses as a party favour for guests to take home.
To make one, we simply cut a circular piece of floral foam, placed it in the pink and white striped container, wet the foam, and then arranged a single rose in the middle surrounded by baby’s breath. It was a bit time consuming as baby’s breath is dainty and therefore isn’t the easiest to insert into the foam, but the arrangements sure were show stopping. And a week later, my favour is still going strong!
Overall, it was a fabulous day celebrating a very special bride-to-be. Heck, even our family’s dog showed up in his best attire. And you know Elle was there with her party pants on.
