If ewe haven’t already herd, the Fort Saskatchewan sheep are doing lawn maintenance right!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I love making the most of summer by exploring the city with the kids and a few of you’ve asked about my favorite Edmonton-area stops… and visiting the Fort Saskatchewan sheep is definitely one of them!
Located a short drive northeast of Edmonton, we first ventured out to Fort Sask to check out their fuzzy flock last summer and returned again last month. And let me tell you, it’s well worth the drive!
For the last 30 years, the City of Fort Saskatchewan has been maintaining their parks with the help of 50 sheep. They’re out roaming the Fort Heritage Precinct on Wednesday through Saturdays from 12:30 to 8 until the start of September.
As long as you approach slowly and gently, the sheep are happy to receive a few pets and even enjoy being fed bite-sized apples and carrots. It’s also super interesting chatting with the shepherd and watching the sheep dogs in action.

When can I go see the Fort Saskatchewan Sheep?
The sheep grazing program runs June 2 to September 4 and you can visit the sheep Wednesday through Saturday between 12:30 and 8 pm.
Where do I go? Is there parking nearby?
Put Fort Heritage Precinct (10006 – 100 Avenue) into your Google Maps. When you arrive, there’s a parking lot adjacent to a large green space with a sheep enclosure. If you don’t immediately see the sheep in the pen, odds are they’re roaming around
What should I bring?
Bring your best manners – the sheep don’t appreciate sudden movements or loud noises!
Cut up apples or carrots make a nice treat that they’re sure to enjoy. Plus, be mindful of your footwear. I made the unfortunate decision of wearing sandals. Sheep poop. A lot. I learned my lesson– lol!
Is there anything else to do while in Fort Saskatchewan?
Yes! It’s actually quite a charming city. Though I’m still exploring it myself, I can confirm that they have a really large and spacious slash park – the Kin Family Spray Park – a short drive away, as well as the cutest ice cream shop – Miller’s Ice Cream – within walking distance of the sheep grazing program.
Happy exploring!
