2018 Edmonton Fall Home Show: Houseplant Haven and Rust-Oleum Giveaway

I’m all about creeping Instagram for home inspiration as much as the next girl. But there’s nothing quite like getting expert advice, ideas and inspiration in-person, which is why I’m marking the 2018 Edmonton Fall Home Show in my calendar.

Returning October 26-28 at the Edmonton Expo Centre, this year’s show features over 200 trusted brands and local companies, as well as HGTV celebrity guest Todd Talbot and lifestyle gurus Colin & Justin.

Houseplant Haven

I always love sampling culinary creations at the cooking stage and stopping by food truck alley for a bite (I’m really playing into pregnancy stereotypes right now, lol!) but this year I’m most excited to check out the Houseplant Haven feature presented by Ellerslie Gift & Garden.

I wanted to know a little bit more about what the Ellerslie team has planned and caught up with General Manager Cinda Thorne. She let me know that the exhibit is all about showing people how to incorporate the beauty and health benefits of plants into their home: no green thumb required!

They’ve rounded up a selection of low-maintenance plants, showing that incorporating greenery into your home doesn’t need to be hard.

“We see plants as an opportunity for people to stay in touch with nature,” she said. “Nature is beautiful, and we all agree on that, so why not bring it inside as well! You could walk into two identical homes and if one has plants, you just know. It feels different. We want to foster success and let people know that incorporating plants doesn’t have to be hard work. You can have success relatively easily.”

In putting this feature together, Cinda said they’re keeping in mind what customers most often ask them about or are looking for. The exhibit is organized into three main categories:

A trendy plant section featuring the plants that everyone’s asking about these days. I’m talking about succulents, cacti, air plants and terrariums!
A low-light section featuring easy-care plants that thrive in low-light conditions and would be ideal in your home or office.
An air purifying section featuring plants that work amazing at improving air quality and quantity by filtering chemicals and removing toxins in the air.

I love incorporating greenery into my home and can’t wait to check out this exhibit, and some of the beautiful plants the Ellerslie team will have on display!

I’m also very excited to check out the Edmonton Fall Home Show feature “A Room Reloved”. Why? Because I’ll be contributing to it!

On October 24, I’m joining Cityline design expert Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault, as well as some of Edmonton’s favorite media personalities, to transform and revamp old pieces of furniture into a refurbished, budget-friendly and perfectly upcycled living room. The pieces will then be auctioned off at the show, with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.
