Looking to live more sustainably? At times, it can seem like a daunting task. But today I’m teaming up with The Watermark Shop to share some easy changes you can start making today on your journey towards a more eco-friendly bathroom.

Tips for a more eco-friendly bathroom

And – good news – if you’re interested in getting your hands on some of the product recommendations listed below, you can stop by the Edmonton Home + Garden Show this weekend, March 24th through 27th. The Watermark Shop will be on-site at the Edmonton Expo Centre as part of the For Your Home Marketplace.

Eco-Friendly Bathroom Tips

Bathrooms might be small but their environmental impact is huge.

I’m teaming up with Carrie Banera, Co-Owner of The Watermark Shop, to share some product swaps and behaviour tweaks you can make to clean up your act in the bathroom.

1. Shorten your shower time

A shorter shower not only saves water, but also saves on the energy used to heat that water.

2. Opt for refillable bottles over single-use containers

Think about all the plastic containers you’ve thrown away over your lifetime. Yikes!
Cut down on plastic by purchasing products like soap and lotion in bulk and then decant into smaller, reusable containers (like these beautiful glass dispensers).

3. Choose eco-friendly toiletries and textiles

Reduce waste by choosing eco-friendly toiletries like reusable cotton swabs, plastic-free toothpaste and biodegradable dental floss. Also, consider incorporating more natural materials into your bathroom decor, such as this Jute Tassle Rug.

4. Invest in installing a low-flow shower head, toilet and faucet.

Over time, you’ll be glad you did!

5. Line dry your towels

…to save energy.

Carrie recommends these Meraki Turkish Hand Towels and Agape Turkish Towels because in addition to being soft, absorbent and quick to dry, they’re eco-friendly and ethically made.

6. Ban flushable wipes

We’ve all heard horror stories about flushable wipes clogging sewage pipes and wreaking havoc on city water systems.

7. Water your plants…

…with water from your shower.

We’ve all been there – waiting eagerly for our shower to heat up warm enough for us to hop in. So, next time – rather than letting that unused water go straight down the drain, collect it to water your plants!

8. Building? Remodeling?

Talk to the experts to find out all about the latest eco-friendly products and materials. And – you guessed it – they’ll be onsite this weekend at The Edmonton Home + Garden Show.
