I read an article last year about how, with food being imported and available year-round, we’ve lost the art of enjoying food seasonally.

So when Starbucks released their Pumpkin Spice Latte back in August, I was having none of it. The weather was hot, I was rocking shorts and slathering the kids in sunscreen. The thought of anything but an iced coffee was completely unappealing.

Fast forward to this morning, though, and I awoke to a rainy, crisp day with no foreseeable warm weather in the forecast – a clear indication that summer has officially signed off for the season here in Alberta. I was definitely a bit bummed at first, but felt quite content as I dressed in a buttery soft sweater and fall booties.

On my way out with the kids, as the crisp air met my face, I felt a bit of a nostalgic thrill – the same feeling I’d get this time of year when starting university.

And that was it: I was ready to jump headfirst into all the great things about fall!

I treated myself to a Pumpkin Spice Latte… which snowballed into bringing out allllllllll the velvet pumpkins and comfy throw blankets. Then suddenly, I was popping tags on new slippers and slinking into an oversized sweater!
