My father-in-law lives in Canmore so we’ve been making the trip down south quite regularly over the past ten years. For Aaron and me, travel always goes hand in hand with good food. I often receive requests over Instagram DMs for restaurant recommendations in the mountains, which inspired this blog post rounding up (what we consider to be) the very best Canmore restaurants!
After eating our way through Canmore, here are the restaurants we think you need to try.
You Gotta Eat Here: Best Canmore Restaurants
Favourite Canmore patio: Creekside Patio at the Stirling Grill & Lounge in The Malcolm Hotel
Just as its name would suggest, the Creekside Patio overlooks a creek, as well as the Three Sisters Mountains.
The Stirling Lounge is the Malcolm Hotel’s casual dining experience and the food and drink menu is divine. Plus, there’s a pretty decent daily happy hour from 3-6.
I’ve also noticed (and appreciated!) that the patio is quite protected from the wind. It’s our first outdoor stop in the spring and the patio remains open late into fall thanks to heaters and fire tables.
Favourite casual dinner in Canmore: Tank310 – Grizzly Paw Brewing Co
If you love craft beer culture and are looking for good food and a great vibe, Tank310 is the spot.
Definitely one of our most-visited restaurants, it feels like a night out while also being kid-friendly. We’ve always enjoyed our meals and the fun cocktail list. And I urge you to order dessert – hands down, Tank310 has among the best in town.
Best Upscale Dinner: It’s a Tie
Sauvage (formerly Tapas)
I’ve been asked the question, “what’s your favourite restaurant?” and for years my answer was always Tapas. Now rebranded Sauvage, it’s a quaint yet moody tapas-style restaurant in the heart of downtown Canmore. The tasting menu and drink list is constantly changing to stay in-season and on-trend, but my review is consistent – it’s SO good.
In fact, we even dined here as a family during my sister’s wedding weekend!
Crazyweed Kitchen
Crazyweed Kitchen is crazy delicious. This Canmore fixture has earned it’s good name over the past 25 years, with its award-winning chefs constantly experimenting, bringing new and exciting options to the menu.
The restaurant itself is a beautiful space with a romantic ambience (and is hard to miss, given that the roof is covered in grass)!
Favourite Cocktail Bar: Bar Déjà Vu
A hidden gem, Bar Déjà Vu is Canmore’s first speakeasy.
Hidden behind a mirrored wall in restaurant 4296, Bar Déjà Vu has sexy, moody lighting, unique decor and the best cocktail list in town. It can be tricky to get a reso though so be sure to book in advance.
Favourite Lunch Spot: The Iron Goat Pub & Grill
With views as good as it’s food and an interior decor theme that screams “you’re in the mountains,” The Iron Goat Pub & Grill has remained in our restaurant rotation ever since we first visited for our friends’ wedding about a decade ago.
Best Casual Breakfast: It’s a Tie
Craigs’ Way Station
If you’re looking for a casual, classic breakfast experience with incredible food, check out Craigs’ Way Station. A staple in the community for 40 years, Craigs’ does breakfast right: from omelettes to pancakes, scrambles, French toast, waffles and eggs benedict.
I always get waffles and ice cream with a side of bacon. Their bacon is on another level.
Rocky Mountain Bagel Co.
Whenever we’re in the mood to get up and go, Rocky Mountain Bagel Co. is our top breakfast choice.
Also open for lunch, they specialize in freshly baked bagels (and we love bringing home some bulk bagels and spreads, too).
Canmore’s Best Elevated Breakfast: Sage Bistro
If we’re in Canmore on the weekend, we love to hit up Sage Bistro’s brunch, which is available from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Classics include banana bread french toast, fresh crab eggs benedict and Quiche Lorraine. But if you’re feeling especially hungry (or in the mood to share), try the Train Wreck which includes four Vita eggs, three chicken apricot sausages, three pieces of back bacon, three strips of bacon, banana bread French toast, ricotta blueberry pancakes, local cherry tomatoes, fruit & berries, seasoned red potato wedges and multigrain toast.
Best coffee: Eclipse Coffee Roasters
Never has a latte ever tasted as delicious as those brewed at Eclipse Coffee Roasters. With two locations, you need to stop by for a coffee!
Best Fish ‘n’ Chips: The Georgetown Pub
Sometimes you just find yourself craving a really good plate of fish ‘n’ chips.
If that’s the case, look no further than the quaint and cosy Georgetown Pub located in the Georgetown Inn.
Best Pizza: Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co.
What happens when you combine a traditional, wood-fired pizza oven with a ‘farm to pizza’ food philosophy?
Incredible flatbread pizza, that’s what.
Hands down, Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co. is my favourite pizza place in Canmore. They also have a solid craft beer and cocktail selection, in addition to pastas, soup, salads and starters.
Best Takeout Pizza: Red Rock Pizza
Thinking of ordering takeout or delivery for dinner? Try Red Rock Pizza, open Tuesday through Sunday from 2 to 10pm. In addition to the classics, they have some fun options on the menu and I love checking out their inventive pizza of the month (right now, it’s Pad Thai).
Most Rowdy Nightlife: The Drake Pub and Rose and Crown Canmore
They’re a classic for a reason. The Drake Pub and Rose and Crown Canmore continue to be the best spots for a rowdy night out.
Best Canmore Bakery: Le fournil
A French-inspired bakery in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Le fournil is a must-visit for anyone who loves fresh-baked bread and handmade desserts.
Croissants. Chocolatines. Fruity Danishes. Speciality coffees. We’ve tried – and loved – them all!
Best Canmore Restaurant At A Golf Course: Stewart Creek
If you’re looking for a pretty drive and a great view, head to Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club. The food is always good and their patio is impressive! Open during golf season.
New and Interesting: Fergus & Bix Restaurant and Beer Market
This last trip to Canmore, we found ourselves at Fegus & Bix twice. Good food, a great cocktail list and a fun vibe makes it visit-worthy… especially if you’re doing a food crawl up Canmore’s mainstreet.
Need to visit: The Sensory
Aaron and I have heard incredible things about The Sensory from multiple people so it’s next-up on our date night must-visit list. If you go, let me know – I’d love to hear how you enjoyed it!
Most-visited Canmore restaurant overall: Chef’s Studio Japan
I can’t remember the last time we took a trip to Canmore without visiting Chef’s Studio Japan, which specializes in ramen, sushi and hot pan skillets. Their ramen is SO flavourful, with my favourite being the Curry Ramen and Aaron’s being the Tan Tan Ramen.
A casual restaurant, it’s also a hit with Elle and Emmett, who are 6 and 3. They both love sushi and split an order of avocado rolls and the kids’ ramen.
Of course, there are many other great restaurants in Canmore – such as BLAKE, Cabeza Grande Tacos and Tequila, Chez Francois, and Murrieta’s. For a town its size, Canmore is blessed with some incredible dining options.
Bon Appétit!
