Well guys, pregnancy has been kicking my butt this week. So, given that I’ve been spending a lot of time resting up in bed, I thought now would be the perfect time to share our master bedroom design boards!
When we decided to upgrade to a king-sized bed and refresh our Master bedroom, I put together a few design ideas for my husband. I think it’s safe to say that I gravitate to light, bright feminine home decor. And I really must give Aaron credit – he’s sat back, smiled and let me create some beyond-girly spaces for Elle these past two years (like her nursery and playroom).
But when it came to our bedroom, I wanted him to love and feel comfortable in the space. So I created a few looks that incorporated my glam aesthetic… but also gave a nod (in some cases, a slight nod LOL) to his masculine side.
How I started
I don’t know about you but when it comes to designing bedrooms, the first piece I always think of is the bed. When you find the perfect bed, it’s SO easy to build a room around it.
I asked Aaron his thoughts on furniture and one thing we both agreed on immediately was that we were ready to invest in some quality pieces. Our preferred brand? Universal Furniture.
If you’ve scrolled through my Instagram and noticed our dining or living rooms, you’ll recognize their pieces.
When we first moved into our house 4.5 years ago, we bought their Summer Hill dining table, dining chairs, lift-top coffee table and end table. After constant, everyday use, they’re still looking brand new – so we knew we wanted Universal Furniture pieces for our bedroom!
Below are four looks I developed after falling in love with four gorgeous – but very different – beds!
Pure White Bedroom Design Board
‘White, bright and everything light – that’s what dream bedrooms are made of.’
Wait, what? That’s not how the nursery rhyme goes? Lol!
I find neutral colour schemes so soothing, especially in a bedroom setting, and am naturally drawn to this light and breezy space. Plus, you can’t go wrong with seashell chandeliers and ornate mirrors.

Luxe Romantic Bedroom Design Board
In my mind, this is exactly what Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s bedroom looks like: luxurious, romantic and sexy, all at once.
I’ve had a major crush on canopy beds for quite some time now. This charcoal beauty, paired with the dark beaded chandelier and velvet armchair, is perfection.

Soothing and Sophisticated Bedroom Design Board
Sleek grey-tone furnishings paired with an intricate armoire and beaded chandelier make this bedroom a sophisticated yet relaxing space!
Plus, I love the pretty little details – like this pink tasseled lamp and cursive ‘je t’aime’ wall decor.

“–the first piece I always think of is the bed. When you find the perfect bed, it’s SO easy to build a room around it.” <— I can't agree more! My decorating process for bedrooms also involves choosing beds first and then decorating the rest of the room around it. I love this article, and the great tips you provided. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words, Katty!
