May the 4th be with you! In honour of Star Wars Day, I thought now would be a fun time to share the details behind Emmett’s Baby Yoda birthday party. Sure, due to restrictions surrounding the pandemic, the ‘party’ was just the four of us – but it was still a lot of fun for him nonetheless.
I swear that Emmett’s love for Baby Yoda is proof that the Star Wars franchise’s strongest force is it advertising, lol. The little guy has (clearly) never seen The Mandalorian and yet he’s Grogu’s biggest fan. I’m not complaining though: Grogu is a pretty cute character.
1. Balloon Garland
This fun little setup got Em SO excited on his second birthday! Somehow kids just know that balloons = party.
This arch took Aaron and me 45 minutes to create from start to finish and made celebrating just the four of us extra special.
Here are the exact balloons I found – the colour was perfect:
Though the kit comes with everyone you need to create a balloon arch, I opted to go with my tried-and-true method: threading the balloon tails through a long piece of craft wire.
I love this method because craft wire is malleable, allowing you to ‘shape’ the balloon arch as you hang it. Plus, you can twist the ends of the wire around furniture, decor and window frames to hang the garland. No tape on the walls needed (and no need for a glue gun or glue dots either)!
While we initially set up the balloon decor in Emmett’s room to surprise him, I moved it downstairs shortly after and it made a great little photo backdrop to capture the birthday boy enjoying a cupcake. Balloon arches are also fab for dressing up a dessert table or adding a pop of fun to doorways.
2. Baby Yoda Cupcakes
These are quite adorable, if I say so myself.
I whipped together some vanilla cupcakes and topped them with green-hued buttercream. The ears are made of pink and green fondant and the eyes are chocolate-dipped roasted chickpeas. I also added some black food colouring to the chocolate-covered eyes…. but that was a total rookie mistake. Children eating black food colouring is never a good idea – so maybe opt for some brown smarties or peanut M&Ms instead!
Baby Yoda Birthday Party Decor
The star of the show is Emmett’s Baby Yoda toy. I saw this guy at the Disney Store at Christmastime and he’s been a family favourite ever since. The toy’s name is ‘The Child Real Moves Plush’ and it comes with a joystick so you can command its movements and sounds.
Happy party planning!

Amazing party details!! Can I ask if you used a template for the Grogu cupcake ears and how large they were?
Thank you! And I didn’t use a template – I just drew out what I wanted on a piece of cardboard and then duplicated it for all the ears!
Adorable!! Do you have directions for how you made the fondant ears? I have never used fondant before.
