Home improvement lovers, rejoice: the Edmonton Home + Garden Show returns to the Expo Centre March 22-25!
I LOVE attending the show each year for home inspiration. And what can I say, when my husband joined me in 2016 to look at synthetic lawns but ended up getting a hot tub, there were no complaints on my end!
This year is slated to be better than ever as the Edmonton Home + Garden Show celebrates its 50th anniversary. There will be over 600 exhibitors and some big-name celebrity speakers including Carson Arthur, Matt Muenster, Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault, Tiffany Pratt, Cheryl Torrenueva and Denise Wild.
And because I know you’re wondering it in the back of your mind, yes, there will be beer gardens. And food trucks too.
I’m really looking forward to the show and decided to catch up with Rosalyn Lazaruk, designer and owner of Wicket Blue Interiors and Tipsy Palm Curated Vintage Market. Rosalyn designed the backyard-themed beer garden space at the show (for this, I love her already) and is putting on a special feature called Retro Renewal. I saw images from her feature at the Calgary show earlier this month and wanted to know more.
Tell me a bit about your Retro Renewal feature:
“Recently, design trends have been influenced by the past. For the last few seasons we’ve seen a lot of Mid-Century Modern influence, which is still very popular. Now we’re seeing 70s glam elements, like velvet and brass, as well as 80s colour schemes – like softer pinks, peaches and muted greens.
I wanted to do a feature to show attendees how to update their space with a retro vibe while still incorporating a modern feel. Retro Renewal is all about incorporating vintage pieces with new, modern pieces to create the perfect space.”
Where did you find the pieces you’re featuring:
“I found new furniture pieces at Contemporary Office Interiors and Revolve Furnishings, both in Edmonton. Contemporary Office Interiors offers authentic pieces with amazing ergonomic designs from brands like Herman Miller, while Revolve Furnishings has classic, versatile pieces that work well in any home.
I then added reclaimed, vintage accessories from my online shop, Tipsy Palm Curated Vintage Market, as well as Reclaimed to Fame, a vintage shop out of Calgary.
All of the products featured in Retro Renewal will be tagged. If you see a piece you’re interested in, you can go to the shop’s website to find out more.”
What are you most excited for at the 2018 Edmonton Home + Garden Show:
“There’s going to be a lot of amazing design features and speakers to hear from. And you should definitely check out the food trucks and games like shuffle board and giant checkers in the beer gardens.”
